The dust emitted by wood, plastic, metal or paint can be hazardous to your health. Always wear proper dust mask. Usage and Safety Safety Always be sure to use the proper personal protection equipment, when using any grinding or polishing machines. Be sure to use adequate ventilation for the process you are performing. Be sure to only use products that specifically fit the intended machine. Inspection: Always check any belts or wheels for cracks, splits or any other imperfections that may affect the integrity of the product. Failure to do so may result in damage to your machine or person. PLEASE NOTE: It is NORMAL for the joints to show wear before the belt. Mounting: Only mount belts, wheels, drums etc. to machines for which they are intended. If any wobbling, vibration, or unusual noise occurs, stop immediately and check the mounting procedures for the piece of equipment being used. Storage: We highly recommend storage of our Flexwheels in a horizontal position (laying flat). Failure to do so can result in warping. We also do not recommend wrapping them in any tight plastic wrap as this places undue stress on the rubber and the belt resulting in permanent damage. Coolant: All products manufactured by Eastwind are meant to be used WET. Water is the best coolant to use. Water clears the slurry away from the work piece, reduces friction and heat which prolongs the life of our product. Please remember, the more water used, the better the performance. PLEASE NOTE: Eastwind Flexwheels are NOT meant to replace Metal Bonded Grinding Wheels. Flexwheels manufactured by Eastwind are Resin Bonded to a cloth backing. Important Instructions All diamond products need a slight break-in period. This is especially true with 6 micron and finer micron products. This occurs due to the diamond being micronized. The diamond is separated by a water process to size the particles. When the articles dry, they sometimes form a vacuum between each other. The result is deep scratches until the vacuum is broken down by use. The way to do dress the discs is to run a piece of fine aluminum oxide (dressing stick) over the surface for five to ten seconds. This effectively breaks down the vacuum and should eliminate the cratches. Be sure to follow this procedure using lots of water to flush the disc or belt. This hould take care of the scratching problem. To insure maximum performance and long life from your new diamond abrasive belts and discs, please follow these instructions carefully. 1. There is a short break-in period, as with all diamond products. Use a light touch at the beginning, since a new belt will cut much more aggressively. 2. These diamond abrasives must be used wet. The more water coolant used the better. This is the most important factor in using your new belts. 3. Do not force sharp edges into the abrasives; this will cause tears in the backing. 4. Use light to medium pressure for best results and to ensure long life of the product. 5. Use the whole surface of the abrasive, never just one spot. Take advantage of the fact that the entire surface is coated with diamond abrasive. This is the second most important factor after using sufficient water coolant. 6. Be sure a belt is completely dry before storing in an enclosed space. When ordering custom diamond products should I contact a distributor or contact FLEXIBLE DIAMOND PRODUCTS Directly? If you are under a time constraint, it is easier and faster for us to discuss your custom order with you directly and put your order in immediate queue for manufacturing. However purchasing directly from us in minimum order quantities is more expensive than ordering from our distributors, because in general they sell our products at less than list price. Both materials can be polished to form "sharp cutting edge." Q: What are the benefits of diamond tools? Advantages. Diamond is one of the hardest natural materials on earth; much harder than corundum and silicon carbide. Diamond also has high strength, good wear resistance, and a low friction coefficient. So when used as an abrasive, it has many obvious advantages over many other common abrasives. Q: How are diamond tools made? High-quality Diamond cutting tools are manufactured with electrolytic iron powder where it acts as a part of the binder alloy and offers the specific arrangement of the diamond composites on to the surface of the tools. Q: How do diamond tools work? The actual grinding work is done by exposed diamond crystals that are held in place by the metal matrix or bond. Each diamond is supported by a bond tail which trails behind the diamond. While the blade rotates through the material, the exposed diamonds on the surface grind the material.
